Strategic
Planning & Implementation
What
is it?
The
title "strategic planning" is misleading. Planning is worthless if there
is no implementation. Good planning, therefore, includes a method for
ensuring implementation.The
"planning" portion of the process requires consideration of internal
and external environments for your business. It also requires consideration
of key questions.
- What
are the (sometimes brutal) realities of your strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats?
- Where
do your talents, passions and economic drivers converge?
- Do you
have a vision and mission for the business that drive the daily decisions?
- What
differentiates you from your competitors?
The "implementation"
portion is about making sure that plan is put to good use.
- Is it
built into the performance plans of all employees?
- Do reward
systems actually support the actions required by the plan?
- Are
employees evaluated against progress toward goals established by the
plan?
- Are
financial resources being allocated to support the goals in the plan?
- What
can you stop doing because it doesn't fit with the plan?
There are
more questions to ask, but you get the point.
Why
do it?
Results
come from creating a good plan and making it happen.
